GIVING GIFTS

A. China
In China you should say “No, thank you” three times before you finally agree to take the gift. Chinese people think that opening gifts in public is very impolite and some of them believe that it may even bring bad luck. Even kids should open presents in private.

B. Spain
If you are invited to a house in Spain, you should bring a gift. It can be something small, for example, chocolates. Make sure to find out if there are any children in the family. If so, don’t forget to have a small gift just for them. When receiving a gift, you should open it immediately in front of the gift giver and thank him/her for it.

C. Holland
As a rule, the Dutch prefer to give and get small gifts. But they should always be of good quality. It’s also important not to spend too much money on a gift. When choosing a present for someone in Holland, don’t buy kitchen knives or scissors. The Dutch believe that giving sharp objects as gifts brings bad luck.
