ARE HUGS FORBIDDEN?
Last Monday Tommy Boucher from Montreal had to pay a fine of $101 for offering “free hugs” to passengers at a subway station. Tommy decided to start giving out free hugs after he was offered one himself.

It made him feel much better and he wanted to share the experience with other people. At the station he saw many passengers who looked sad or angry, so he started to give out hugs there every week.
Last Monday morning he was standing at the station, as usual, wearing his green “Free Hugs” T-shirt, when subway inspectors came. They asked him if he had a permit.

But that didn’t make a difference to the inspectors. They told him he mustn’t hug people in the subway station for safety reasons.
The next day Tommy wrote a letter to the authorities.
